About the Tour

Held every February in the North in Alaska and Yukon, "Yukon Quest" is the international dogsledding race between Fairbanks, Alaska and Whitehorse, Yukon. Because of its toughness of the wilderness terrain and 1600km distance they travel, it is called the toughest dogsledding race in the world. in 2019, the race starts in the Yukon's capital Whitehorse and we will get to see as many as 20-30 mushers and their 14 dogs departing one by one, racing into the vast wilderness.

The excitement of the dogs, mushers and crowd at the starting line is hard to describe. Even though the temperature could be really cold, all the dogs, mushers and cheerful spectators are excited to see this great race starting every year. Once they leave the capital city, we will get to seem them at some of the view points between the checkpoints. Once mushers arrive at checkpoints, we will see them resting, feeding dogs and getting quick nap before they continue the race. We will follow the great race all the way to the halfway point of Dawson city, the gold rush city of the Klondike gold rush time.

Yukon Quest Trail Map
On the tour, not only we see mushers and dogs racing, but also we have an opportunity to see other natural beauties including aurora borealis, the great and magical natural phenomenon of the North. For those who want to experience dogsledding themselves, we can arrange 1/2 dogsledding toward the end of the tour ( advance booking required.) This tour is great for nature and animal lovers alike. Also vets are staying at checkpoints to monitor the health of racing dogs. Enjoy the scenic drive for about an hour before you arrive at Braeburn, famous place for "the biggest cinamon rolls in the world!" Here we will see mushers arriving, resting and going. You will be able to feel the bust and hustle of the race at checkpoints!

When we arrive in Dawson, you will feel the history of Gold Rush from the appearance of town itself. The town of Dawson itself is protected as a cultural heritage site and today you can still feel the atomosphere of the frontier.

After good dinner in Dawson, you will have a good rest to prepare yourself for another night of aurora viewing. Dawson is situated directly underneath the aurora belt. This means that you will have more chance to see aurora borealis when the sky is clear. Let's get out around midnight and look up the sky to see the dancing light of aurora borealis.

While waiting for more mushers to arrive, you can explore the gold rush city of Dawson downtown. By seeing some of the old buildings such as Jack London and Robert Service cabins, you will feel the frontier life of early times!

Tonight, you will have dinner on your own and have a good rest before we go out again to see aurora borealis. The chance to see aurora is not the same every night. The appearance of aurora is dependent on clear weather and aurora activity itself. The more you try, the more chance you will have to see amazing and beautiful Northern Lights.
